rising 7th grade summer reading list
All rising 7th grade cadets must read the assigned reading selection and complete the activities. All projects will be graded based on the successful completion of the assignments and must be turned in by the end of the first week of school. This project will count towards the first semester Language Arts grade. If cadets do not complete this project by the due date, he/she will receive a failing grade for this assignment. This project cannot be substituted with any other make-up assignment. All cadets are responsible for book rental, purchase, or download.

Choose one of the following activities from the list below and to complete the summer reading project.

Part a. Design a movie poster as if your book is being made into a movie. Illustrate the main character or main event in the book. Be sure to include the title of the book, author, and characters.
Part b. Put together a cast for the film version of the book. Decide which current actors and actresses would best play the roles. Include brief descriptions of the stars and tell why each is perfect for the part. Be creative and make your poster colorful and interesting.
Book Jacket
Create a colorful, engaging book jacket that includes the following:
Cover: New cover for the book with illustration, title, author, and student name.
Inner Flap (left side): Summary –Sequential summary of key story events from the reading.
Inner Flap (right side): Text connections (text to text, text to self or text to world)
Back Flap: Theme – Description of the theme supported with examples from the story.
Collage
Create a collage of quotes, thoughts, ideas and pictures related to the book.
Comic Strip
Design a comic strip creating some new event in the story. Use an online comic strip creator or blank paper.
Newspaper
Design the front page of a newspaper. Then, write a short news story explaining how these events are related to a major event in the book.
